Parla Privacy Policy

Parla is a face-to-face translation app. This Privacy Policy explains how Parla handles information when you use the app.

Information Parla processes

Parla can access the microphone when you start a voice conversation and the camera when you choose to translate a photo. The app uses the text that you speak or photograph to provide the translation you requested.

Text translation and photo text recognition are processed on your device after the required ML Kit language models have been downloaded. Downloading language models requires an internet connection.

On iPhone and iPad, Parla uses Apple Translation and Apple Vision for text translation and photo text recognition. Apple Translation processes translated content on the device; Apple may collect API usage and performance metrics, including the app bundle identifier and selected language pair, but not the original or translated content.

Voice recognition and spoken playback use the speech recognition and text-to-speech services installed on your Android device. Depending on your device, language, settings, and selected service, speech recognition may be processed on-device or by the service provider over a network. Please review the privacy information of the speech recognition service configured on your device.

Information Parla does not collect

Parla does not create user accounts. We do not operate a server that receives your conversation text, translated text, photos, or audio. We do not sell personal information, run advertising, or use your content for advertising or profiling.

Permissions

• Microphone: used only when you start voice recognition for a conversation.
• Camera: used only when you take a photo for text translation.
• Internet and network state: used to download on-device language models and to support any network behavior of the Android speech recognition service or Apple system service selected on your device.

You can deny or revoke microphone and camera permissions at any time in Android Settings. The related feature will not work while its permission is denied.

Data retention

Parla does not maintain a user account or a developer-controlled server copy of your conversation content. Language models downloaded to your device are stored by ML Kit and can be removed from Parla's Offline language packs screen.

Children

Parla is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Parla's features or data practices change. We will publish the updated version at the same public URL and revise the effective date.
